The Ten Most Valuable Words and Phrases

There is a lot of resignation and cynicism in the lesbian and especially the gay community. In our struggle to offset or counter those who say we are evil, sick, imcomplete, or somehow not normal, we create an aura of superiority. Setting aside for now the possibility that we just might be, in this column I want to call attention to what gets lost in our 'attitude.'

What often gets lost are what I call "The Ten Most Valuable Words and Phrases in Language." These words are so important because they are unquestionably words which make you beautiful and draw people to you and make you attractive.

Use them, mean them and make them a part of who you are as a loving person. Each of these words and phrases gives something to another, grants them specialness and being, enhances their sense of self worth, makes them want to be around you, and in the process makes you more attractive.

This regular column is about ways to increase your productivity, enhance your relationships, and accelerate your success. No advice I can give here is as important as increasing the use of these ten words and phrases every day with all the people in your life; and through their use replace some of the cynicism of the day with love, affection and support. It will come back to you tenfold.

Here are the words (and they work in other languages as well as English):

    1. Thank you (Gracias)

    2. You're welcome (De nada)

    3. May I help you? (Lo puedo ayudar yo?)

    4. Please (Porfavor)

    5. I'm sorry if I have offended you (Arrepentido si yo lo he ofendido)

    6. I apologize (Yo me disculpo.)

    7. I really appreciate you (Yo realmente lo aprecio)

    8. Forgive me (Perdoneme)

    9. Is there something I can do for you? (Esta allî algo yo puedo hacer para usted?)

    10. I love you! (¡Yo lo amo!)
